๐ Significant milestones: The inception and development.
Ethereum officially launched on July 30, 2015 with the โGenesis Block,โ which marked the starting point of the ability to create fully functional Blockchain applications.
The idea was originally conceived by Vitalik Buterin (along with Gavin Wood, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Di Iorio, and Joseph Lubin) during a presale in 2014, which raised approximately $18 million by selling ETH at a price of less than one cent per token.
๐ ๏ธ Major upgrades and ongoing challenges throughout the decade.
๐น Homestead (March 2016): Elevated Ethereum to a more stable and fully-featured status, transitioning from a test Blockchain status.
๐น DAO Hack and the split of Ethereum Classic (July 2016): The hacking of the DAO Smart Contract led to a Hard Fork, with a significant portion moving to Ethereum while Ethereum Classic continued its separate operations.
๐น Tangerine Whistle & Byzantium (September 2016 โ October 2017): Improved efficiency, personal security, reduced mining rewards and delayed โblock time.โ
๐น Constantinople & Istanbul (2019): Upgraded the efficiency of the protocol, improved the network structure, and enhanced collaborative working capabilities.
๐น The Merge (September 15, 2022): Transitioned from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake, reducing energy consumption by over 99% and making ETH a deflationary asset.
๐น Dencun Upgrade (May 2024): Launch of EIP-4844 (Blobs) enabling Layer-2 usage with significantly lower data storage costs, through the Proto-Danksharding technology.
