The corporation #Microsoft has begun testing the Copilot Mode in the Edge browser. The new AI-based tool expands standard search and navigation capabilities. According to the company, it turns the browser into a smart assistant for task completion — from comparing products to booking tables at restaurants.

Copilot Mode allows analyzing all open tabs with the user's consent. It provides more accurate recommendations and reduces the time spent switching between sites. For example, when searching for vacation accommodation, the system can evaluate all options and suggest the best one based on location and conditions.

One of the key features is voice navigation. Users can give Copilot tasks in natural language: from opening specific tabs to searching for information on a particular page. Microsoft notes that over time, the mode will be able to use additional browser data, including browsing history and saved accounts, to perform more complex commands.

Copilot is integrated into the Edge interface. When opening a new tab, users see a unified field for chat, search, and navigation. The service can operate in a dynamic panel, maintaining access to the homepage. This allows for quick text translation, unit conversion, or obtaining reference information without distracting from the main task.

According to Microsoft Edge Vice President Sean Lyndersay, in the future, Copilot Mode will receive support for thematic routes. This feature will help organize both current and past page views into structured collections. For example, when researching information about launching an online business, users will be offered educational materials and relevant tools.

Microsoft emphasizes that privacy remains a priority for the company. Copilot gains access to browser content and data only with explicit consent. The corporation assures that it collects the minimum necessary information, and enabling or disabling the mode is available in Edge settings.

During the testing phase, Copilot Mode is provided for free; however, Microsoft does not rule out that some features may become subscription-based in the future.
