$BNB Square launches Bitcoin payments for merchants through Lightning Network
Square has begun allowing merchants to accept Bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network, aiming for full availability by 2026.
This feature enables customers to pay in BTC by scanning a barcode, and Square instantly converts the payment to fiat currency. Sellers do not need to manage cryptocurrencies themselves.
Square tested the system for the first time at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. It is now rolling out the platform to selected businesses before a broader launch.
The Lightning Network enables fast and low-cost Bitcoin transactions by processing them off-chain. Square sees it as key for Bitcoin to be usable in everyday payments.
