On August 2, 2027, the world will witness the “Great North African Eclipse”, a total solar eclipse lasting up to 6 minutes and 22 seconds, making it the longest on land between 2009 and 2114.
Visible across Southern Europe, North Africa, and parts of the Middle East, the eclipse will begin over the North Atlantic, touch Southern Spain, Gibraltar, and sweep through Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt before ending in the Indian Ocean.
Luxor, Egypt, will offer the longest totality, while locations like Tunisia and Southern Spain provide excellent alternatives.
The eclipse’s remarkable duration is due to the Moon’s proximity to Earth and its path near the equator. Experts advise using certified eclipse glasses or viewers for safe observation.
