The first ever

The market capitalization of cryptocurrencies rose above the $4 trillion mark for the first time ever, driven by gains in the crypto market amid rising legislative momentum in the United States to regulate the sector.

During trading on Friday, the market capitalization of cryptocurrencies reached approximately $4.003 trillion, according to data from "CoinGecko".

This came with the support of the U.S. House of Representatives voting on three bills to regulate the cryptocurrency sector, paving the way for a structured legislative framework for the sector and for the dominance of the United States over crypto assets.

Alternative currencies - which are all digital assets other than Bitcoin - led the recent surge, with the price of Ethereum rising by 5% to $3615.78 and Ripple rising by 3.1% to $3.461.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin fell by 0.4% to $118,997, reducing its market value to $2.36 trillion, capturing 60% of the total value of cryptocurrencies.
