#Humafinance @Huma Finance 🟣 Understanding Cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency secured by cryptography, making it nearly impossible to counterfeit or double-spend. Unlike traditional currencies issued by governments (fiat money), cryptocurrencies are generally decentralized, meaning they are not subject to government or financial institution control.
The most well-known cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, launched in 2009. Since then, thousands of other cryptocurrencies, often called "altcoins," have emerged, including Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin.
How it Works
Cryptocurrencies operate on a technology called blockchain. A blockchain is a distributed public ledger that records all transactions across a network of computers. This distributed nature ensures transparency and security. When a transaction occurs, it's added to a "block" and then linked to the previous block, forming a "chain" of transactions.
