#TrumpTariffs FRANKFURT, Germany — The European Union expects to know on Monday whether President Donald Trump will impose punitive tariffs on the United States' largest trading partner, a decision that, according to economists, would have repercussions for businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.

In early April, Trump imposed a 20% import tax on all products made in the EU, as part of a series of tariffs targeting countries with which the United States has a trade imbalance. A few hours after these country-specific tariffs went into effect, he suspended them until July 9, at a standard rate of 10%, in order to calm financial markets and allow for negotiations.
