Trump announced to South Korea and Japan the introduction of tariffs of 25% starting August 1

The United States will impose a 25% customs duty on imports from Japan and South Korea starting August 1, announced US President Donald Trump.

In his social media platform Truth Social, Trump published official letters to the leaders of Japan and South Korea, officially informing them of the new rate.

In the letters, the US president notes that he is concerned about the trade deficit of the US with both countries.

Trump urged Japan and South Korea to relocate the production of their goods to the US to avoid the imposition of tariffs. He also warned that if Tokyo or Seoul decide to raise their tariffs, Washington will add that increase to the 25%.

Trump posted similar letters on Truth Social that he sent to the authorities of South Africa, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, and Kazakhstan.
