Trade war

President Trump said on Monday that he would increase tariffs on Japanese and South Korean imports to 25 percent starting Aug. 1, pressuring key allies as his deadline for making trade deals arrives this week. A few hours later, the president shared the rates some other countries’ goods face: 40 percent for Myanmar and Laos, 30 percent for South Africa and 25 percent for Malaysia. In a flurry of trade-related announcements, Mr. Trump also extended a pause on steeper tariffs against dozens of other nations to Aug. 1, from July 9
