TRADE WAR ON THE HORIZON!
Trump IMPOSES 25% Tariffs on Japan and South Korea
Is a New Wave of Global Tension Unleashed and Affecting Markets?
President #DonaldTrump has announced that the United States will impose general tariffs of 25% on imports from Japan and South Korea starting August 1. This measure, revealed by Trump on Monday through posts on Truth Social, marks a significant escalation in U.S. trade policy.
#TRUMP shared screenshots of letters that were apparently sent to Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, detailing these new tariff rates.
These two letters are the first in a series that will be sent before Wednesday, when the "reciprocal tariffs" announced in early April are expected to return to their highest levels on dozens of countries.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that 12 additional letters would be sent on Monday, and more are planned for the coming days. Leavitt also indicated that Trump would sign an executive order to postpone the original Wednesday deadline until August 1, giving a brief respite before implementation.
