April 2, 2025 (“Liberation Day”): Trump signed Executive Order 14257, imposing a 10% baseline tariff on nearly all imports, plus higher “reciprocal” rates for 57 major trading partners—up to ~46% for certain countries (e.g., China, Vietnam) .

He also used IEEPA authority, a controversial move later challenged in courts .

Steel and aluminum tariffs rose to 50%, while cars faced 25% tariffs .

Additional Executive Orders followed, including 25% tariffs on imports from countries buying Venezuelan oil .

⚖️ Legal challenges
