🟡 Trying to Understand HODL – Still New & Learning! 🤔📘
Hey Binance fam 👋
I’m brand new to crypto — no trading background, just curious and trying to learn. I keep seeing people talk about “HODLing” and how it helped them over time, but I’m still figuring out how it really works and why it’s so popular.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far (and I’d love your input too!):
📘 What is HODL?
“HODL” originally came from a typo of “hold,” but now it means Hold On for Dear Life — basically buying a crypto asset and holding it long-term, even during market ups and downs.
It’s less about trading daily and more about believing in the future value of what you bought.
✅ Pros of HODLing (as I understand it):
You don’t have to time the market
Helps avoid panic selling during dips
Simple for beginners — just buy and hold
Has worked out well for some long-term holders
❌ Cons / Risks I’m still thinking about:
Some coins never recover after crashing
You could miss gains from short-term trading
It’s hard emotionally to watch your portfolio drop
You need strong belief in what you're holding
❓What I’m still unsure about:
👉 How do people choose which coins to HODL?
👉 How long is “long-term” in crypto?
👉 What helps you stay calm when prices fall 50%+?
I’m not investing yet — just learning — but I wanted to share what I’ve picked up so far and see how others approach it. Would love to hear your experiences or tips!
