The "America" party led by Elon Musk may focus on a few pivotal seats in Congress.
The billionaire says that his new political party may attempt to turn potential House and Senate seats into decisions on key issues.
The new American political party, which Elon Musk boasted about funding, may initially focus on a few seats that can be won in the House and Senate while seeking to be the decisive voice on key issues amid the slim margins in Congress.
The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX discussed this approach on Friday in a post on the social media platform X that he owns, amid his ongoing dispute with Donald Trump over a spending bill that the president signed into law. On Saturday, Trump's former advisor announced on the X platform, without going into details, the establishment of what he calls the "America Party."
Musk's books, the richest man in the world, oversaw severe cuts to the federal government's budget after the start of Trump's second presidency in January: "One way to achieve this is to focus intensely on just two or three seats in the Senate and eight to ten districts in the House of Representatives." He added: "Given the slim margin of legislative votes, that will be enough to be a decisive voice in controversial laws, ensuring they serve the true will of the people."
Musk did not specify which seats he might be interested in.
In another post on Friday, commemorating the 249th anniversary of the United States declaring its independence from the United Kingdom, Musk published a poll asking his followers on "X" whether he should proceed with his previously announced idea of creating the America Party to challenge the Republicans and Democrats. More than 65% of about 1.25 million responses answered "yes" by Saturday morning.
Musk also wrote in a text accompanying the poll, which he promoted several times throughout Friday: "Independence Day is the perfect time to question whether you want independence from the two-party system (some say it's a one-party system)!"
Musk then posted on X on Saturday: "Today, the America Party was formed to restore your freedom."
He also wrote: "By a 2 to 1 ratio, you want a new political party, and you will get it! When it comes to the bankruptcy of our country due to extravagance and corruption, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy."
