Trump signs his mega bill amid fireworks to commemorate the occasion

President Donald Trump signs extensive spending and tax legislation known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill" at the White House.

He transformed the traditional July 4 picnic into a celebration of the country's independence and his victory in Congress, the enthusiasm of the day commemorating the most decisive legislative triumph of his second term. The festivities included a flyover of bombers — a nod to recent military strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities — and will feature a fireworks display at the National Mall later.

Everything went as Trump had planned when he set the July 4 deadline to pass the bill weeks ago. Even some of his own allies thought the timeline was too ambitious. But Trump's tight control over his own party, combined with what a White House official described as a president's “ubiquitous” campaign to garner Republican support, culminated in the bill's passage in the House of Representatives on Thursday, with only two defections among Republicans.
