Not Your Bro burst onto the NFT scene in 2022, bringing a bold, rainbow-colored take on the profile picture set (PFP) with its memorable art collection.

The project features 10,000 hand-drawn NFTs of a woman’s profile, embellished with flowers, colorful brushstrokes, and diverse hairstyles, backgrounds, and accessories.

The project’s co-founders, Natalie and Georgia, founded Not Your Bro to uplift women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and their allies in the Web3 space and beyond.

Since its founding in 2022, the Web3 world has seen how they have used NFTs to amplify their impact by partnering with fashion brands like British online retailer Boohoo and nonprofits like Girls Who Code and The Trevor Project.

The project has received recognition, including multiple award nominations and winning the “Most Impactful Charitable NFT Project” award at NFT NYC 2022. Let’s take a closer look at Not Your Bro, its founders, and the many projects they have built.

Not Your Bro started with NFT collection

Natalie is one of the co-founders and lead designer of “Not Your Bro”. In an interview, she shared that the inspiration for the image design of Not Your Bro suddenly flashed on a Saturday morning. She immediately brought to life the image of a powerful woman who seemed to be looking up at something that made her smile. Natalie said that the process of drawing her image was touching and empowering.

Each NFT features the same rainbow hues, with no skin tones, instead each “Not Your Bro” represents a colorful, multifaceted, empowering woman, with the collection featuring 250 hand-drawn features including tattoos, piercings, eyebrows, and accessories.

Natalie explains the reasons behind these creative decisions:

There are no skin tones used in the series, only bright tones, connecting our art to the LGBTQIA+ community, the series has both hard and soft qualities, and the artwork has received widespread support, including appreciation from top artists.

Besides the creative design and uplifting message, the project was notable for two other reasons. Firstly, it was the first collaboration between the two co-founders, who also happened to be a couple. Natalie and Georgia were dating at the time and later got married. The project also attracted attention for its connection to giving back to the community.

According to the roadmap, the founders will use part of the funds raised to support organizations in the field of LGBTQIA+ community, girls and women’s empowerment, such as Outright Action International, Malala Fund, Save the Children and Girls Who Code, and a portion of the monthly royalty income will also be donated to these causes.

It grew into a community that supports representation

“Not Your Bro” is more than just a simple PFP project, it’s a movement that redefines inclusion and representation in Web3. The project is based on the principles of diversity, equality, and empowerment, creating space for women, LGBTQIA+ communities, and their allies in the digital sphere.

It is worth mentioning that Not Your Bro has built a thriving community based on mutual support and respect. Members inspire each other, share ideas and creativity in a safe, inclusive and friendly space. This collective power has helped shape broader cultural changes and proved that NFTs are not just digital commodities, but can drive real change.

The impact isn’t limited to web3: Not Your Bro received recognition from Vogue Australia, which called the project “a hugely successful incursion into the space.”

At its core, Not Your Bro is about amplifying underrepresented voices and providing a platform for artists and creators to share their perspectives. The project prioritizes inclusivity and is dedicated to shaping a more equitable space - one where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

They promote different mental health concepts and have launched a mental health awareness campaign

When the co-founding team brought Not Your Bro into the NFT space, they realized they could use the same model to raise awareness for another issue and created a series specifically focused on mental health.

In July 2022, the Not Your Bro team minted Not Your Demons, another collection of 10,000 hand-painted items with 250 features, these NFTs are referred to as “the flip side of Not Your Bro” because each NFT is a mirror image of the Not Your Bro NFT.

For example, Not Your Demon#8286(pictured above) is a mirror image of Not Your Bro #6003. The two NFTs have the same facial expression and design, but the Not Your Bro team swapped small attributes in the Not Your Demon NFT. In this case, they added different accessories, using lightning bolts as eyebrows and a skull to support the avatar's bangs.

Like Not Your Bro, profits from Not Your Demons support the mental health organization The Trevor Project, according to the project’s roadmap.

Since its founding, Natalie and Georgia have made it Not Your Bro’s mission to empower and advance as many people as possible, especially those in often marginalized groups such as women and the LGBTQIA+ community.

As stated in the mission: Our mission is to build a like-minded community through this project, give back to the community, and invite more women to join this field. In addition, we are also committed to increasing the representation of women in technology, blockchain, and NFT fields so that current and future women in this field can see their presence.

It’s safe to say that Not Your Bro has done that and more.
