The Norwegian government plans to temporarily block new data centers involved in energy-intensive crypto mining, starting as early as autumn 2025.
Minister Karianne Tung stated that crypto mining consumes a lot of electricity while providing minimal local economic benefits, and the government aims to prioritize power use for other sectors.
