That’s why global supply chain technology company StaTwig has partnered with our privacy-preserving blockchain and DeCC solution to improve the reliability and efficiency of its Cold Chain module. Together, we will work on the traceability and efficiency for vaccine storage, transport, and distribution.

VaccineLedger: Privacy-First Pharmaceutical Tracking

StaTwig is an early adopter of blockchain technology. The company was founded in 2018 with the aim of using blockchain to revolutionize supply chain logistics, putting it well ahead of the curve.

Its flagship product, VaccineLedger, is an open-source platform that has been recognized as a Digital Public Good by the United Nations and was the winner of The Trinity Challenge, which calls for data-driven solutions from innovators to improve community access to effective oral antibiotics. VaccineLedger is designed to provide tamper-proof tracking for every vaccine vial, from manufacturing to administration.

Of course, data is encrypted to ensure its integrity, which is where COTI comes in!

How COTI and StaTwig Are Working Together

The partnership will explore how COTI’s garbled circuits can provide cryptographically secure solutions for health supply chains by processing data from StaTwig privately and reliably.

The partnership integrates COTI’s garbled circuits into VaccineLedger’s Cold Chain module. The module captures high-frequency sensor data, such as temperature and humidity, from refrigeration units and cold boxes across distributed storage points. COTI’s solution enables this data to be processed without ever needing to expose it by decrypting it into plaintext form. For example, the platform securely:

  • Detects when temperature moves out of the acceptable/safe range for too long

  • Triggers alerts when no signal has been received for a period of time

  • Warns of unauthorized access or other threats to integrity of infrastructure

  • Logs all alerts on the blockchain as signed messages

The collaboration will see COTI’s technology being piloted with StaTwig’s existing client base, for rigorous testing in a live environment.

Embedding COTI in the Future of Healthcare

StaTwig’s platform is already deployed in multiple LMICs. It enables tracking of over 100 million doses annually for 65 million beneficiaries, with each dose assigned a unique digital ID. In Costa Rica, the platform is being used to enhance supply chain resilience with automated monitoring and compliance logging.

This partnership sees COTI’s technology embedded in a system that is already making a meaningful difference to medical provision worldwide. Over the next five years, StaTwig aims to scale its products to over 25 countries, supporting over a billion beneficiaries by streamlining last-mile distribution in health, nutrition, and agriculture.

For COTI, this is a promising new use case for healthcare supply chains. StaTwig’s platform is a scalable, high-volume public health use case that is expected to clearly demonstrate the value of garbled circuits for real-time, decentralized analytics that can be used to raise the efficacy of systems.
