#BTC⚡ Bitcoin Hashrate Drops After Iran's Internet Shutdown
In recent days, the global Bitcoin network has lost part of its processing power (hashrate), and due to the internet shutdown in Iran, it is possible to get an approximation of the amount of electricity consumed by miners as a result of this outage.
🔣 Hashrate calculations:
In recent days, Bitcoin's hash rate has risen from about 927 exahashes per second to 799 exahashes per second. This means a drop of about 128 EH/s, or 13.8 percent.
If we consider half and less than half of this decline to be normal based on the usual fluctuations of this chart, between 64 and 40 exahashes per second remains an abnormal decrease that is caused by the internet shutdown in Iran and is also consistent with the Reuters report that 5% of bitcoin was mined in Iran.
⚡ Calculating Equivalent Electricity Consumption:
If we assume that every 1 exaS per second requires about 30 megawatts of electricity:
40 × 30 = 1,200 MW
64 × 30 = 1920 MW
📌 In other words, between 1,200 and 2,000 megawatts of electricity, equivalent to the consumption of several metropolitan cities or several large industrial complexes, the pressure has been lifted from the country's electricity grid.
