The Strait of Hormuz is not closed!!! Don't be misled by the foolish waves! First of all:
First: It's useless for the parliament to agree, it can only indicate that there is such an idea, and it still needs to be reviewed and approved by the Supreme National Security Council, and finally submitted for Khamenei's signature to take effect. This process also takes time.
Second: I don't believe Iran will close it, if they do, it will offend not only the U.S., but other countries as well. Although closing it could trigger inflation in the U.S., the already isolated Iran still needs support from others; if they offend everyone, there will be nothing left to play with.
Taking the 2024 data as an example, 84% of the crude oil and condensate transported through the Strait of Hormuz and 83% of the liquefied natural gas ultimately flow to the Asian market, with China, India, Japan, and South Korea as the main importing countries, accounting for 69% of the crude oil and condensate flow from the Strait of Hormuz in total in 2024!
The U.S. imports about 500,000 barrels of crude oil and condensate per day through the Strait of Hormuz from Gulf countries, accounting for 7% of the total U.S. imports of crude oil and condensate and 2% of petroleum liquid consumption.
