Ripple's Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz expressed the opinion that Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, was once the issuer of the leading cryptocurrency.

It can be argued that Satoshi was once the issuer of Bitcoin,” said the executive.
The argument is based on the fact that Satoshi launched the network and mined the first blocks.

Ripple's Chief Technology Officer also pointed out that Ethereum, the leading altcoin by market capitalization, had an issuer during its presale.

Is Ripple the 'issuer' of XRP?
The comment was made against the backdrop of the discussion on whether Ripple can be considered the issuer of XRP.

Schwartz redefined the idea of 'issuer', shifting from who created the token to who supports and structures its financial ecosystem.

This means that exchanges providing markets for XRP can be seen as the main issuers of the token.

If the term 'issuer' is defined narrowly (for example, 'who created the token?'), some might say that Ripple can be considered the issuer of the token. However, if a broader definition is applied, the company's role diminishes significantly.

XRP was 'literally worthless'
Schwartz also noted that XRP was 'literally worthless' at launch. In fact, the prominent Ripple executive was not even sure if the ledger would continue to flow.

Essentially, this means that there was no initial intention to create an asset that would be marketable, and there was no trading ecosystem behind it.

Could Schwartz be Satoshi?
There were some suggestions that the architect of the XRP Ledger could be the person who started it all. As reported by U.Today, Schwartz previously denied that he is Satoshi.

The prominent Ripple executive claims he first discovered Bitcoin back in 2011, which happened much later than the launch of the original cryptocurrency.
