Russians are banned from exporting gold abroad.
The government of the Russian Federation may restrict the export of gold from the country by individuals to an equivalent of $10,000, similar to cash foreign currency.
"We have generally received support from almost everyone. One agency is still against it. I hope that literally by the end of the month, perhaps, we will have another (meeting, – ed.) of the government at a level where a decision can be made," said the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Moiseyev.
The restriction on gold exports by individuals was actively discussed in the Russian Federation at the end of 2023; the Ministry of Finance suspected that Russians were circumventing restrictions on the export of currency from the country.
