#PowellRemarks Chairman of the Federal Reserve Powell emphasized in his opening remarks the recent rise in inflation expectations and stated that this trend may be linked to tariffs.
"Short-term inflation expectation indicators have increased in recent months, as reflected in both market indicators and survey-based indicators. Survey respondents from consumers, businesses, and professional forecasters point to tariffs as a driving factor. However, beyond the next year or so, most long-term expectation indicators remain consistent with our 2% inflation target," Powell said.
Powell noted that Trump's tariffs could either trigger a one-time price increase that the Fed is likely to overlook or have a long-term impact on inflation.
