Under the title "A New Chapter in Syrian-American Financial Dialogue," the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Dr. Abdul Qadir Al-Hosriya, delivered an opening speech during a dialogue meeting between Syrian and American banks, attended by the U.S. envoy to Syria, Ambassador Tom Barak, which focused on opportunities for financial cooperation between Syria and the United States.
The governor confirmed that the bank is working to enhance transparency and regulatory discipline by updating the legal framework for combating money laundering and financing terrorism, and strengthening the independence of the financial intelligence unit, in addition to launching training programs for compliance officers in Syrian financial institutions.
The speech included an official invitation to American banks to reconsider their banking correspondence relations with Syria and to open representative offices or banking partnerships, emphasizing that building trust is the foundation for activating joint financial cooperation.
Dr. Al-Hosriya also pointed to the importance of establishing a common financial language based on ethics and discipline, and being open to modern technologies in banking operations, in addition to emphasizing the bank's readiness to operate transparently to secure an attractive and safe financial environment for foreign institutions.
The meeting concluded with a message expressed by the governor saying: "Banking relations support legitimate trade and serve people's lives," reaffirming that the dialogue continues to build a modern, open Syrian financial system that partners in international efforts to achieve stability and prosperity.
