The longest conveyor belt in the world is located in the Western Sahara. Its length is 98 kilometers. This conveyor transports phosphate rock from the mines in the Bou Craa area to the port city of El Aaiún, from where the phosphates are exported for fertilizer production. It is capable of moving about 2000 tons of rock per hour and is so big that it can be seen from space.
