Japanese investment firm, Metaplanet, is intensively increasing its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings amid an aggressive long-term strategy. On June 2, 2025, they announced the purchase of an additional 1,088 BTC, worth approximately ¥16.89 billion (around USD 115 million), bringing their total reserves to 8,888 BTC with a cumulative acquisition cost of about ¥122.27 billion.
Company strategy guru, CEO Simon Gerovich, stated that the internal metric “BTC Yield”—which measures the growth of BTC per share—showed an increase of 66.3% Q-to-date, amid a surge in the company’s revenue and operational profit.

May 2025: Metaplanet executed the acquisition of 1,241 BTC worth ¥18.4 billion (~USD 126 million), bringing total holdings to approximately 6,796 BTC, surpassing the Bitcoin stock of El Salvador. They set an ambitious target to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and continue to 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026.
April 2025: A purchase of 330 BTC (~USD 28.2 million) increased the total to 4,855 BTC, making them the 10th largest corporate Bitcoin holder globally.
Q1/Q2 2025: Several batches of purchases—150 BTC (USD 12.5 million), 162 BTC (USD 13.5 million), and previously 497 BTC (USD 43.9 million)—pushed the accumulation to 3,050–3,200 BTC, funded through stock issuance, zero-interest bonds, and derivative instruments.
