In the past, Vietnam banned dealing with and criminalized the possession of cryptocurrencies. Despite this, a large number of Vietnamese citizens own many cryptocurrencies. As a result of increasing public pressure on one hand and the trend of major companies issuing their own cryptocurrencies on the other, along with significant technological advancements, these factors have put pressure on the Vietnamese government to intervene in this system by creating legal legislation that regulates and protects this leading and successful trade worldwide. This law, expected to be implemented at the beginning of 2026, is required to: 1_ Regulate and supervise this and protect the rights of its citizens as users. 2_ Combat money laundering and enforce strict oversight on the sources of funds. 3_ Organize and establish a local national market for trading cryptocurrencies.
