Legal Status :

Illegal as a means of payment, but trading and ownership of crypto is allowed in a legal grey zone. The State Bank of Vietnam officially prohibits using Bitcoin and similar coins for payment, yet holding and trading is not banned.

No formal definition of virtual assets in law- cryptocurrencies aren't yet classified as money, Securities, or property.

The Prime Minister ( Pham Minh China ) has instructed the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) to draft a legal framework by Q2 2025.

A "sandbox" pilot program for licensed crypto exchanges is in development expected to launch mid 2026, in partnership with global players like Bybit.
