Sources informed Axios that billionaire Elon Musk's tweet expressing regret for "overstepping" in criticizing President Donald Trump came after a private phone call he had last Friday with White House Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

According to three sources who spoke to Axios, the call was made to ease tensions between the two men after a week of public exchanges of criticisms, particularly regarding Musk's objection to Trump's massive tax and budget plan known as the "beautiful invoice."
