#TrumpTariffs Trump says he will impose unilateral tariffs in a few weeks

President Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he would send letters to his trading partners in the next week or two establishing unilateral tariff rates.

“At some point, we’ll just send letters. And I think they understand that by saying this is the deal, they can accept it or reject it,” the president said at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

Shortly after introducing new tariffs that rattled the markets, Trump instituted a pause on his more severe obligations that expires on July 9. However, his latest comment only clouds the waters about what could happen as the deadline approaches.

Earlier on Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Congress that it is "very likely" the tariff pause will be extended for countries that are negotiating with the administration "in good faith."
