🔁 Crypto Trading Fundamentals Deep Dive: #TradingPairs101
Your success in crypto trading doesn’t just depend on what you trade—but also how you pair it. Choosing the right trading pair is a game-changer.
🔍 What Are Trading Pairs?
A trading pair shows which two assets you’re trading between:
BASE / QUOTE = What you're buying / What you're using to buy it.
Example:
In BTC/USDT, you’re buying BTC (base) using USDT (quote).
💡 Do I prefer stablecoin or crypto-denominated pairs?
Mostly stablecoin pairs (like USDT, BUSD) because:
• Easier to track profits/losses in fiat value
• Less exposure to volatility of the quote asset
But I do use crypto-crypto pairs (like ETH/BTC) for portfolio rebalancing or when I want to accumulate a specific asset.
🎯 How I choose a trading pair:
• What's my end goal—holding more of the base or the quote?
• Which pair has the best liquidity and volume?
• Am I looking for stability (use stablecoins) or growth (crypto pairs)?
📉 Real Example:
I once traded ALGO/ETH during a volatile ETH dip—ETH dropped, and I lost on both sides of the trade. Lesson? If you don’t want double risk, stick to a stablecoin quote when volatility’s high.
