Musk, who had recently stepped down from his position as special government advisor in charge of reducing federal spending (leading the "Department of Government Efficiency" or DOGE), publicly criticized this legislation on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a "reprehensible abomination". He argued that the law would increase the deficit and betray promises to reduce federal spending, even suggesting that politicians who voted in favor should be "fired".
