🚨💣#ElonMusk Orders Immediate Shutdown of SpaceX’s Dragon Program Amid #Trump Feud🚀💣
In a stunning move, Elon Musk announced on X that SpaceX is immediately shutting down its entire Dragon spacecraft line. The reason? A sharp escalation in his ongoing feud with Donald Trump, who recently threatened to terminate all government contracts tied to Musk’s companies.
“In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” Elon posted.
The fallout is massive. Dragon capsules are currently the only US-built spacecraft capable of carrying astronauts to and from the International Space Station. With NASA’s reliance on Dragon, the sudden shutdown has left a gaping hole in US space operations.
Both Dragon 1 (retired cargo version) and Dragon 2 (crew and cargo capable) are affected. Since its debut in 2019, Dragon 2 has been essential for ISS missions—especially when Boeing’s Starliner ran into delays, most recently leaving #NASA astronauts stuck until Dragon got them home.
Future projects aren’t spared either. SpaceX’s Mars-bound Red Dragon and the lunar-focused Dragon XL are also being scrapped. Dragon XL was scheduled to support NASA’s Lunar Gateway for the Artemis IV mission in 2028. With Starship still under development, NASA now faces serious delays.
#NASA and SpaceX had collaborated closely on Dragon XL for years. It was supposed to bridge the gap while Starship matured. Now, with its cancellation, NASA’s timeline for returning to the #moon —and eventually going to Mars—is in jeopardy.
Elon’s abrupt move not only cripples active spaceflight capabilities but also throws the future of 🇺🇲US space exploration into chaos. With no ready replacement, the space agency is scrambling for options.
