In 2018, the company BitTorrent, Inc. was acquired by Justin Sun, the founder of the TRON Foundation. This acquisition marked a turning point.
Following the acquisition, the TRON Foundation launched the BitTorrent token (BTT) in 2019, based on the TRON blockchain (TRC-10 standard). This token was designed to incentivize users of the BitTorrent network to share files and bandwidth.
Finally, in December 2021, the TRON Foundation launched the BitTorrent Chain (BTTC). This is a cross-chain interoperability blockchain that uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism and sidechains to support smart contracts, allowing for the transfer of assets between blockchains such as Ethereum, TRON, and BNB Chain.
