🇲🇽💰"It's not a problematic scenario": How much should we worry about the fall in remittances in Mexico? Will they be sent via Cryptos?
Remittance income to Mexico fell by 12.1% during April of 2025 compared to the same month last year. This figure has raised alarms about the economic future of the Latin American country. According to data from Banco de México (Banxico), during the fourth month of the current year, Mexico received 4,761.19 million dollars in remittances, a figure lower than the 5,418.85 million that the country received in April of the previous year.
Press reports stated that this figure was the worst in the last decade; however, in the four months of 2025, a higher inflow of remittances has been recorded compared to the same period in 2023, 2022, and 2021, with 2024 being the only year to surpass the current year's figure.
Doctor in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Óscar Rojas Silva, stated that while the 12.1% drop in remittance inflows to the country is not a minor detail, the scenario is also not catastrophic.
"The country has diversified dollar income. It's not a problematic scenario. It would be if this were the only source of dollar income," the expert explained.
On the other hand, it is believed that the increase in the adoption of Cryptocurrencies and Exchanges like BINANCE has been slightly shifting the way money is sent from anywhere in the world to Mexico.
Do you think Cryptos will continue to increase their adoption in the short term?
