TAIWAN'S CRYPTO EXCHANGE BITOPRO CONFIRMED THE FACT OF A HACK FOR $11.5 MILLION

Despite the scale of the exploit, BitoPro remained silent and did not acknowledge the fact of the hacker attack for three weeks. Starting from May 9, many complained about withdrawal issues, especially with the USDT stablecoin, allegedly due to technical work on the exchange's side.

Suspicious transactions were first noticed by analyst ZachXBT, who identified suspicious withdrawals from BitoPro's hot wallets and their subsequent sale on a decentralized exchange. At the same time, suspicious activity was observed across several blockchain networks, such as Tron, Solana, Polygon, and Ethereum, indicating coordinated actions by the attackers.

The stolen digital assets were either laundered through Tornado Cash or connected to Thorchain before ultimately being credited to the wallet of crypto mixer Wasabi.

Three hours after ZachXBT's post, BitoPro confirmed that a hacker attack took place and affected its "old hot wallet".
