Elon Musk is once again pushing the boundaries of technology, this time in the field of private communication. He has just announced XChat, a modern messaging platform that seeks to rewrite the rules of the game. Its biggest selling point? Bitcoin-inspired encryption and security built on Rust, a language known for its speed and resilience.
🔹 Bitcoin-Inspired Encryption
In a post on X, Musk revealed that XChat will use "Bitcoin-style encryption" for incoming messages. Although he did not go into technical details, everything points to robust cryptography similar to SHA-256. Each user will likely receive a pair of public and private keys, elevating security to a whole new level.
🔹 Rust: Security Meets Performance
XChat is being developed in Rust, a choice that is no coincidence. This programming language is praised for its memory safety and efficiency. With this move, Musk sends a clear message: privacy and security come first.
🔹 Not Just Encryption – Feature-Rich Communication
Along with its cryptographic core, XChat will also offer a set of practical features:
🔹 Audio and video calls without needing a phone number
🔹 Disappearing messages for an additional layer of privacy, on par with Signal or Telegram
🔹 Cross-platform support for maximum user freedom
"You will be able to make audio/video calls without needing a phone number on all platforms," Musk confirmed.
🔹 Currently Limited to Premium Users
The beta version of XChat is currently available only to selected premium users. Musk also confirmed that there is no integration agreement with Telegram regarding xAI, so XChat remains a completely independent company. Once commercially launched, it will seek to compete head-to-head with WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram.
Bitcoin Remains at the Heart of Musk and Tesla
Although Musk is often associated with Dogecoin, his true loyalty lies with Bitcoin. And not just on a personal level; Tesla still holds around $1.25 billion in BTC, according to the Arkham analysis platform. The electric car manufacturer has been holding the flagship cryptocurrency since 2021.
Musk has also expressed his support for a U.S. strategic Bitcoin reserve and was present at the signing of an executive order related to it.
And how did the market react? Bitcoin rose nearly 2% following Musk's announcement of XChat's encryption, despite an earlier 8% drop. BTC is now trading above $105,000, once again demonstrating that Musk's words still hold weight in the crypto world.
💬 Question for you: Would you try an encrypted messaging app like Bitcoin? Would you trust it more than Signal?
