The tech titan and de-facto DOGE leader firmly criticized the "big beautiful bill" — the spending bill that will form the core of Trump's legislative agenda — in a forthcoming interview with CBS, a clip of which was released on Tuesday.

"I was like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decrease it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing," Musk said. "I think a bill can be big, or it could be beautiful. I don't know if it could be both."

The Tesla CEO, in his capacity leading the White House DOGE office, has focused intensely on trying to cut spending from the federal budget.

Musk initially predicted that DOGE would cut at least $2 trillion in spending. He's since revised the number down a couple of times, and last month, he told reporters that DOGE had saved just $160 billion in federal spending and cut 20,000 government jobs, or about 1% of the federal workforce.

The "big beautiful bill" in its current form ultimately increases the deficit. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates that the legislation would add $2.5 trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years.
