France witnessed a shocking kidnapping incident targeting David BaLand, one of the founders of Ledger, a company specializing in cryptocurrency wallets, and his partner. They were abducted from their home in the Miro area of the Loire region in the early hours of the morning.
The kidnappers transported BaLand and his partner to two separate locations. During the period of captivity, BaLand was tortured, as his finger was mutilated as a form of pressure. The kidnappers sent a video showing the mutilated finger to BaLand's business partner, Eric Larchevêque, along with a massive ransom demand in cryptocurrency.
Authorities arrested ten suspects, including seven who were formally detained, five of whom are aged between 20 and 25 years. The suspects face charges including kidnapping, torture, and armed extortion, which could lead to life imprisonment.
The French Interior Minister pledged to enhance cooperation between the police and the cryptocurrency community to improve security and pursue the perpetrators. Security experts also urged prominent figures in this field to take preventive measures such as reducing public exposure, using multi-signature wallets, and employing personal guards when necessary.
