A new piece adds to the mystery of the Italian tortured in New York. There are two more suspects in the case involving Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan, the 28-year-old Italian tourist who arrived in New York on May 6, kidnapped and tortured for two weeks until he managed to escape and raise the alarm.

Among the suspects in the kidnapping of the cryptocurrency trader are, according to the New York Post, two detectives, one of whom is reportedly serving as a bodyguard for the mayor of New York, Eric Adams. This would be John Waeltz, 37, a cryptocurrency investor. Currently, among the suspects is also William Duplessie, 33, founder of the Pangea Digital Asset Group and the Pangea Blockchain Fund, based in Lugano, Switzerland, along with his father James and brother Stephen.

Both detectives under investigation are accused of having lured the Italian millionaire to SoHo and then torturing him for his Bitcoin password. The mayor's office has confirmed the temporary suspension of the two detectives, adding that they are "disturbed" by the allegations. Every municipal employee, a spokesperson for the mayor emphasized, "is required to obey the law, including our officers, both on duty and off duty," and stressed that all accused officers "have been put on suspension."

The tragic incident only came to light after the victim managed to escape a week ago, bloodied and barefoot, and immediately told the police that he had been brutally beaten, drugged, hit with electric wires, and threatened with death for nearly three weeks.
