The blessed Friday: Virtues and deeds
Friday is not like other days; rather, it is the master of days and the greatest in value and blessing. Allah Almighty has given it a high status in Islam, making it a weekly holiday for Muslims, and has placed in it spiritual blessings and virtues that elevate the believer and strengthen his connection to his Lord.
Virtues of Friday
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
> "The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it Adam was created, on it he was admitted to Paradise, and on it he was expelled from it, and the Hour will not be established except on Friday."
– Narrated by Muslim.
And it is enough honor that Allah Almighty revealed a whole chapter in its name: Surah Al-Jumu'ah, which mentions the virtue of remembrance and worship on this blessed day. There is also an hour on Friday when a Muslim servant stands praying and asks Allah for something, except that He grants it to him, and it is a great hour surrounded by angels and where mercy descends.
Recommended deeds on Friday
1. Washing, applying perfume, and wearing the best clothes:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Washing on Friday is obligatory for every adult..." – Agreed upon.
2. Reciting Surah Al-Kahf:
It is among the established Sunnahs, as it has been reported that whoever recites it, Allah will illuminate him with light between the two Fridays.
3. Sending abundant blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him):
For they are among the most beloved deeds on this day. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The best of your days is Friday, so increase your prayers upon me in it..." – Narrated by Abu Dawood.
4. Supplication:
Especially in the last hour of the day, just before Maghrib, where acceptance is hoped for.
5. Being keen on attending the Friday sermon and prayer:
For it contains virtue, admonition, and expiation of sins.
Message of Friday
Friday comes as a reminder for the Muslim that he is still in the span of life, and that opportunities are still granted for repentance and good deeds. It is a day of renewing faith, purifying the heart from negligence, and strengthening social ties through congregational prayer and peace among Muslims.
On Friday, the blessings of remembrance and obedience manifest, and the souls ascend towards the Creator, filling the hearts with tranquility and planting hope in the souls.
