A White House official confirmed that Tesla CEO billionaire Elon Musk will leave the Trump administration after a turbulent period working on restructuring the federal government.

The White House official stated that the news of Musk's departure from the administration is true, and that "his departure will begin tonight".

On Wednesday, Musk thanked U.S. President Donald Trump in a post on "X" as his tenure as a special government employee in the Office of Management and Budget comes to an end.

Musk's tenure, which lasted 130 days, was scheduled to end around May 30. The administration confirmed that efforts by the Office of Management and Budget to restructure and downsize will continue.

Musk stated, "The mission of the Office of Management and Budget will become stronger over time, as it will become a way of life in government."
