On May 22, 2025, the decentralized exchange Cetus operating on the blockchain $SUI
suffered a massive hacker attack. The malicious actors exploited a flaw in the protocol's business logic to steal tokens worth $223 million, including 20,920 $ETH
(approximately $56 million).
The Cetus team, in partnership with blockchain forensic company Inca Digital and with the support of the Sui Foundation, announced a reward of $5 million for information that will help identify, locate, and arrest the hackers. This was reported on Cetus's official page on X.
Additionally, Cetus offered the hacker a deal: the return of 20,920 ETH in exchange for $6 million as an "ethical reward" with no legal consequences. Sui validators are blocking the malicious actor's transactions, which has sparked discussions about network centralization. The attack highlighted vulnerabilities in DeFi protocols, but the Cetus team has already resolved the issue. Stay updated on crypto market news at #MiningUpdates
