The Fifth Theory of Disenchantment: Identity is Self-Given When You're Out and About
People who often attend conferences will definitely hear statements like this when socializing with others: I am a co-founder of xxx, I am a core member of a certain project...
In reality, he/she is just an intern in BD at xxx, or an assistant doing odd jobs under xxx...
I do not deny that this is a practical technique; after all, everyone attending the conference surely wants to chat with various so-called founders and big bosses. Most of the BD and other roles attending the conference are more focused on completing their own KPIs.
So how can we distinguish?
This needs to start from our purpose of attending the conference/chatting. Everyone wants to talk to the so-called founders and big bosses, mainly to gain more underground information, insights on the market situation, and answers to their own doubts, etc.
At this point, you will find that your purpose has nothing to do with those so-called titles; what you seek is a person with good understanding and character.
However, people always unconsciously wear colored glasses, desperately trying to flatter those 'big bosses.' Truly capable people tend to be humble and low-key; I have seen many founders who, when out and about, refer to themselves as one of the project community members.
So, stop harboring illusions about these so-called titles. Understanding and identity are two different things. A person with understanding will definitely find their own sky in the right time flow; a person with 'identity' can be anyone, but it cannot cover up the hollow and dull soul behind it.
Of course, if you really want to research these 'big shots' with identities, I suggest you take a look at LinkedIn or directly ask them. You will find something unexpected.
Another interesting phenomenon is that 'identity is self-given when you're out and about' has certain regional characteristics. Some regions do not do this; everyone is straightforward and says what they mean; other regions love to do this, believing it to be a reasonable and efficient technique, but often end up getting slapped in the face for boasting too much. You can guess which two regions these are 🤣
Enough said, I need to go become a messenger for basic human survival security. See you next time.
