Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic has officially announced his departure from the Polygon project, marking the end of an era for one of Ethereumโ€™s most successful scaling solutions.

โœ” Exit Announcement

Bjelic shared the news on X, stating it was time to step away. He is leaving both the Polygon Foundation board and Polygon Labs operations.

โœ” Last Co-founder Standing

His departure leaves Sandeep Nailwal as the only active co-founder, after previous exits by Jaynti Kanani and Anurag Arjun.

โœ” R&D Legacy

Since co-founding Polygon (formerly Matic) in 2017, Bjelicโ€™s work on zk-proofs, scaling research, and Ethereum-based innovation shaped the protocolโ€™s core identity.

โœ” Emotional Farewell

Nailwal called Bjelic โ€œa brotherโ€ and praised his deep impact on the protocol, saying many of Polygonโ€™s defining features were driven by Bjelicโ€™s vision.

โœ” Changing Visions

Bjelic explained that his vision has diverged from Polygon's current direction and felt he could no longer contribute at full potential. He still believes in crypto and may work on new blockchain projects in the future.

โœ” Whatโ€™s Next for Polygon?

The project remains focused on Web3 development, zk-tech, and expanding its ecosystem, but recent exits raise questions about internal alignment and future leadership.
