🚨 In London, an American tourist lost $123,000 in cryptocurrency after taking a ride with a fake Uber driver.
After a night out, the tourist ordered a car through the app but got into a vehicle that just looked similar. The driver even called him by name, which added to the illusion. During the ride, the driver offered him a cigarette - after smoking it, the tourist started feeling disoriented and confused.
Later, it turned out that he had revealed his phone password, allowing the scammer to access his crypto wallet and transfer a large sum in Bitcoin and XRP.
It’s believed the cigarette may have contained a substance that impairs judgment and memory. The funds were withdrawn quickly, and access could not be recovered.
London police and the FBI are investigating, but recovering the stolen money appears unlikely. The case is a stark reminder that both tech and finance can be vulnerable not only online, but in everyday life.
