"Did you know that one day, a man paid five hundred MILLION dollars for two pizzas?"
Ladies and gentlemen, take a seat. This story is as true as it is crazy.
15 years ago, a hungry programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz, passionate about Bitcoin, wrote his name in history.
It’s May 22, 2010.
Bitcoin is still an obscure project, worth less than a cent.
Laszlo wonders:
"What if I paid for a pizza with Bitcoin? Would anyone accept it?"
On a forum, he offers 10,000 BTC to anyone who would have two pizzas delivered to him.
Another user accepts. The pizzas are delivered. The 10,000 bitcoins are sent.
That day, the first commercial Bitcoin transaction took place.
And without knowing it… Laszlo had just bought the most expensive pizzas in history.
Today, those 10,000 BTC would be worth over 500 million dollars.
Some say more than a billion at its peak.
If he hadn’t been hungry that day and had kept his Bitcoins until now, he’d be a billionaire.
But unknowingly, his curiosity cost him his fortune.
However, what Laszlo lost in money…
He gained in legend.
That’s why every May 22, the world celebrates… Bitcoin Pizza Day.
I’m not judging anyone. I’m just telling the story.
