#BitcoinPizza
On May 22, 2010, a Floridian named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by completing the first real-world transaction using Bitcoin. He exchanged 10,000 Bitcoins for two large pizzas from Papa John's. At that time, the value of these Bitcoins was approximately 41 dollars.
Today, the value of those same Bitcoins is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Nevertheless, Hanyecz stated that the Bitcoins had no value at that time and therefore the idea of exchanging them for a pizza was incredibly cool, and he does not regret the transaction he made.
Every year on May 22, the cryptocurrency community celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day to commemorate this historic transaction. This serves as a reminder of Bitcoin's humble beginnings and its potential for broader adoption.
This day is celebrated worldwide with various events and activities, and discounts are often offered to customers who pay with Bitcoin.
Despite the significant increase in Bitcoin's value since that day, Hanyecz says he is unaffected by this deal, stating that the idea of exchanging Bitcoins for pizza was incredibly cool.
