"Bitcoin Pizza Day" commemorates the first real transaction of Bitcoin, which took place on May 22, 2010. A user named Laszlo Hanyecz exchanged 10,000 Bitcoins for two pizzas. A man in Florida requested on the Bitcoin forum that someone buy and deliver two pizzas, paying 10,000 BTC, which was the first commercial transaction using bitcoins. Hanyecz, seeking to prove the utility of Bitcoin, posted an offer on the Bitcointalk forum. He offered 10,000 Bitcoins to anyone who would buy and deliver two large pizzas from Papa John's. Jeremy Sturdivant, who was also a forum user, accepted the offer. The transaction was completed four days after the announcement. Hanyecz received two large pizzas in exchange for 10,000 BTC.
