In the latest roundtable on digital currencies by the Securities and Exchange Commission?
In a keynote speech at the latest SEC discussion on digital currencies, Paul Atkins commented on the role of the commission in digital currency policy. He outlined three key areas for regulatory focus: issuance, custody, and trading.
Compared to his recent appearance in the discussion round in late April, Atkins provided insight into his ambitious agenda for digital currencies. With these priorities, it seems that the SEC will make a real shift in digital currency policy in the United States.
Paul Atkins' plans for the Securities and Exchange Commission
Earlier today, the SEC hosted the fourth discussion on digital currencies, which centered around tokenization. Its agenda had been announced for several weeks, and the commission published the full data from several members.
Hester "Mother of Digital Currencies" Peirce was enthusiastic, Caroline Crenshaw expressed her usual doubts, and SEC Chairman Paul Atkins delivered a keynote speech:
"For the United States to be the 'capital of digital currencies on the planet' as envisioned by President Trump, the commission must keep up with innovation. Rules and regulations designed for off-chain securities may be incompatible or unnecessary for assets.
