As reported in a press release published on Monday, the privacy-focused web browser Brave will soon integrate with the Cardano blockchain. The cryptocurrency Cardano $ADA
, named after the English mathematician Ada Lovelace, currently ranks ninth in market capitalization, totaling over $28 billion, according to Coinmarketcap.
Brave was co-founded by Mozilla and Firefox co-founder Brendan Eich, who also invented the JavaScript programming language and previously worked on the Netscape web browser, which dominated the market in the 1990s. Eich was the CEO of Mozilla until he was fired for his anti-same-sex marriage views. He then co-founded Brave Software in 2015 with the aim of creating a competitor to Google Chrome. Eich positioned Brave as a privacy-focused browser, blocking ads and cookies, giving users the opportunity to earn rewards for viewing ads. Brave users can earn Basic Attention Tokens (BATs), the browser's native currency, stored in its built-in wallet. Over time, the Brave wallet became multi-chain, integrating many of the major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL). And now, 85 million Brave users will soon be able to send, receive, and exchange ADA from Cardano.
"Integrating Cardano into the Brave wallet not only expands multi-chain access but also enhances security, governance participation, and the overall user experience," Eich said. Cardano inventor and CEO of Input | Output (IO) Charles Hoskinson also added, describing the integration as a "natural fit."
"We are not only expanding functionality for Cardano users in the era of on-chain governance but also promoting a new standard for how blockchain networks should empower people," Hoskinson explained.
